Hauling Hay

Our Friday night was spent hauling 225 large square bales of hay from the 100 acre alfalfa field to the south of our farm. This was our second crop of alfalfa. If you’d like to see how we made haylage out of our first crop alfalfa check out this video.

We were able to get all the bales off the field, hauled, unloaded and stacked in the hay shed before it rained overnight on Friday night. It was a late evening of work, but thankful to have the hay stored.

The tractor and baler

The baler makes a bale that is 3 ft high, 4 ft wide and 8 ft long. One bale weighs about 1,400 pounds.

Nick picks up the bales with the Bobcat and loads them onto the wagons
