Raising the Bar

One of the most important things that we do at Meyer Dairy is to ensure cow comfort. The past couple of days have been spent doing a small remodel job in our freestall barn, which we hope will provide even better cow comfort.

We raised our neck rail on the beds where the cows rest. The neck rail provides the cow with guidance and helps position her in the stall.

BEFORE: Nick's dad is loosening the bolts on the neck rail.

AFTER: We installed brackets to raise the neck rail up. Nick is tightening the bolts.

The cows were very curious while we were working on their beds, it took us about three hours to complete one section of the barn.

Please let us know what improvements you notice with the cows as they use the stalls. We have an older freestall barn (1996) and are thinking about cow comfort updates as well.
